Hi there! I’m Jon, an electrical engineer (PE) with a passion for solar energy and sustainability. My journey began back in October, 2001, with my service in the U.S. Coast Guard, where I learned the importance of resilience and dedication. After my time in the military, I continued to pursue my interests in engineering, earning an electrical engineering degree from the University of Washington, then working as a nuclear engineer with the U.S. Navy and later as an electrical design engineer with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
Throughout my career, I’ve gained invaluable experience in the field of electrical engineering, which has fueled my commitment to sustainable living and renewable energy. Throughout my career, I have attended various conferences on renewable energy and building commissioning, and I hold the title of Certified Building Commissioning Professional. My work with organizations such as Kilowatts for Humanity and Engineers without Borders has allowed me to contribute to meaningful projects aimed at alleviating energy poverty in rural Africa. These experiences have given me a deep understanding of the importance of renewable energy and how it can transform lives and communities.

In addition to my passion for solar energy and sustainability, I am also committed to helping people prepare for and respond to emergencies and disasters. My book, READY FOR ANYTHING: PRACTICAL STRATEGIES FOR SURVIVING DISASTERS AND EMERGENCIES, offers valuable insights and guidance on this topic. I have responded to several disasters, including Task Force Power in Puerto Rico after Hurricane Maria and as assistant chief of operations for the Infrastructure Assessment Team mission in Florida after Hurricane Ian. I have also seen the impact of disaster on my local community as a flood team lead in a local flood basin with the Army Corps of Engineers. This experience has further deepened my commitment to helping people build resilience and adapt to the challenges of our changing world.
